Page 1 - The Humble Cupcake

If you are reading this you probably already know just how popular cake decorating has become. It started with the humble cupcake, but has now developed into a very secure niche of its own. For many years, The Essential Ingredient has stocked a basic range of cake decorating supplies. Along with the trend, the variety of products that we stock has grown. As our customers have become more skilled and adventurous, we have been happy to offer more goodies for them to experiment with. Our customers come from all walks of life, we don't just have Nanna coming in to get something for the christening cake. Birthday and wedding cakes seem to form the bulk of the creativity along with the cupcake tower! To make it easy we have stocked flowers and sprinkles and pearls for the top of any creation, but we also supply the things needed to make your own if you want. Cake boxes and boards are a necessary item when you need to travel with your creations and we have a variety of these too.

Because of the range of cake decorating products available, we thought it would be helpful to run through some of the more basic cake decorating items and their usages. This will give you an idea of what's involved when decorating cakes and cupcakes, and will help you find what you need when you're buying supplies. As you will see on page 2, the icing is probably the best place to start.
